My name is Arianna Teruya (Though, some refer to me as Akira). I am a multi media/disciplinary artist born in Brampton Ontario. Since I was a child, I personified ideas and incorporated my experiences in life in the form of stories and characters alike. With an unyielding love for art, I draw inspiration from the styles of my Okinawan, Peruvian and Honduran ancestry into the pieces I create. My work incorporates themes of the creative spirit, colonialism and the pursuit of a brighter future in the forms of costumes, sculptures, and digital illustrations.

(24 x 36, Acrylic on Canvas). 'Phobos in an Alcove' is a work depicting the surrealistic landscape I find myself revisiting in an unpleasant state of mind. One filled with the wriggling insect-like manifestations of my unconscious terror and the rotting fruit that is my viscera and flesh. This painting was made at a time where my life was all but chaos and unending visions dancing around that pervaded my daily routine in ways I couldn't quite find the right words to describe.
