DIGITAL FRACTALS (The Matrix x Severance) is inspired by Joana Chicau’s Re_Traces Slow Technology; more specifically, this reading talks about the creation of the digital version of ourselves. It also points out the identity our digital selves acquire from each algorithmic interactions. Severance is referenced through the digital half’s identity and looks being created by various data collection. For example, fingerprint scans, facial recognition, application usage, etc. The split between the identities of the digital and real self is apparent through personality and environmental factors’ effect. The Matrix is apparent through the difference in the real vs digital assets. There is a disparity in what is perceived by the digital self as real, as it seems to be uneasy about its “reality”. There is also a reference about the question of purpose and freedom, as the character tries to escape their destiny. |
